Montair is categorized under leukotriene receptor antagonists (anti-asthmatic medications). It functions by inhibiting the effects of specific natural substances (leukotrienes) that play a role in triggering asthma and allergic reactions. This medication alleviates breathing difficulties by minimizing inflammation in the air passages.
Montair (Montelukast) is utilized to manage and alleviate symptoms in individuals with asthma by keeping the airways from constricting. The active component in these tablets is known as a leukotriene receptor antagonist (LTRA). It works systemically and has a dual mechanism of action, meaning it serves both as an anti-inflammatory medication and a bronchodilator.
Leukotrienes are inflammatory eicosanoids that are produced by the immune system. They attach to receptors in the airways, contributing to lung and airway inflammation, as well as mucus production in asthma patients. By blocking the effect of leukotriene D4 on the CysLT1 receptor, this medication stops leukotrienes from constricting the airways, which leads to improved breathing and better asthma management. Patients may use this medication as an alternative to corticosteroids or to prevent exercise-induced bronchospasms. If asthma control is insufficient with other treatments, a doctor might suggest these tablets to help manage symptoms.
Montair may lead to side effects such as: fluid retention, nausea, vomiting, nosebleeds, unusual weakness or fatigue, headache, dizziness, drowsiness, upper respiratory tract infections, and disorientation.
